The Scottish Bicycle Polo Association

Presents Bicycle Polo in Scotland.
Have you played, Know what your missing?
Then just read on!!!.

Its new its fun. If you can ride a bike then come try and play!!

    - Scottish Bike polo team play Championship in France -
  • A squad of five fine young ( middle aged) men represented Scotland in the Autumn cup tournament in Le Havre during the September weekend. This was our first International game since adopting the new International rules. Unfortunately the french have a different set of rules. Their game is a mixture of hurling and polo and is played with a handball? Confused we certainly were !!! It was virtually impossible for us to hit the ball any distance with our equestrian mallets , plus everytime we got near the goals they ran into us from behind . The harder they knocked us off the quicker we got back up. We suffered defeat in all but one game 3-1 , 5-4 , 3-3 , 5-0. The draw was against last years French champions & contained half of the French team which got silver in World champs this year, so a morale victory. The 5-0 defeat was final game where we were down to 3 fit players due to illness & injury. We will seek revenge next year when the French will play in Scotland under international rules. We were the first non French team to play in a French rules tournament & were treated very well by all concerned. An excellent if not somewhat bruising experience.

Bicycle Polo? World Championships? Ever Heard of it!!
"It could become a quiz question"

The oldest club in Scotland is the !!!!!! Initially from Glasgow they are almost 25 years old. So who are they?

We also have our own National and
'World Championships' this year held at Hurlingham Park

Who we are and Where we play!! Polo is an evocative word, conjuring up the ideas of a fast and highly skilled team game where the goals scored decide the winner. Football has an identical meaning and Bicycle Polo is a combination of both sports.

Bicycle polo has been played throughout the United Kindom since 1891 with a lapse during the Second World War, followed by a revival in the fifties in Glasgow. There were then 16 Club Teams playing in the Paisley area alone. Now Bicycle Polo is run from their grounds at Seedhill Playing Fields, Lace Street, Paisley by Andy McGee, every Saturday afternoon on specially marked out pitches.
Bike polo a growing sport in Scotland is also played at
St Andrews University, and at Perth District YMCA.
This year we are hoping to run instruction and a series of Winter competitions for clubs and individuals to promote the new sport in Scottish schools, YMCA's and youth clubs.
